As part of the ‘Wanna Dance?’ Programme, Cheshire Dance facilitate a Dance and PMLD Practice Sharing Network.

The network led by artists for artists, brings together practitioners and professionals from across the UK and internationally who are working with, or interested in working with, people with PMLD to share approaches, knowledge and resources. Together we explore, question, develop and inspire our practice – and each other – to ensure all people with PMLD can have opportunities to experience dance.

Our next network meeting is on Thursday 23rd October, 12:30-2pm (online via Teams)

Dance Artist Ruth Spencer and Cheshire Dance Creative Director Jane McLean will be sharing their learning from this year’s Wanna Dance? Creative Jams and we’ll be hearing from guest speaker Rebecca Swift from Entelechy Arts about Ambient Jam, a unique dance improvisation programme arising from long term collaborations with adults and young people who have profound and multiple disabilities. About ‘Wanna Dance?’

‘Wanna Dance?’ explores dance as a sensory, non-verbal language prioritising one to one dancing with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) through artist-in-residency programmes, creative projects and training.

‘Wanna Dance?’ asks the question, ‘if people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities would like to dance, and if so, how that dance might be?’ and seeks to give individuals with the most complex needs opportunity to engage in dance experiences that are personal to them and meets their unique needs.
