Lead Creative Practitioner / Artist (Freelance) at Cheshire Dance
Salary: £6,000 + £1,000 materials budget
Hours Of Work: Approx. 24 days
Contract: Freelance
Application deadline: Thursday 3rd September 2026.
Cheshire Dance is looking for a skilled and experienced Artist / Creative Practitioner to lead it’s 50th Birthday Community Heritage Project: 50 Years in Motion.
We would like to commission a high-quality artwork, or creative outcome, that is rooted in and responsive to Cheshire Dance’s archive; which holds both physical documents and the organisation’s rich, living and embodied heritage.
The commission will centre on collaboration and co-creation, inviting past and present communities to actively explore, contribute and re-imagine the heritage, stories and experiences of Cheshire Dance. In doing so, the artist will create a shared, collective experience that opens up the archive and engages audiences in meaningful and accessible ways during Cheshire Dance’s 50th year.
We’re open to a range of artforms and creative approaches – particularly those that place participation, dialogue, and artistic excellence at their heart.
A busy and rewarding role, this is a great opportunity to join a dedicated team and play an important part in a friendly, creative organisation and one that is already realising some of its bigger ambitions for dance and for creative, social and health outcomes.
You will lead our administrative team, report to the Director and collaborate across the team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. You’ll manage our planning, evaluation, policy review and human resource processes and you’ll be collaborating with team members on driving positive brand awareness, supporting stakeholder events and ensuring financial control. This senior role in charity administration requires at least five years of relevant experience, ideally in the arts or non-profit sectors.
You will bring strong organisational skills, an analytical mindset and a desire to improve organisational systems and administrative processes. With a proven ability to communicate strategic and operational matters in both verbal or written forms you’ll be able to inspire, listen and motivate to build positive and trusting relationships across the organisation and with partners and stakeholders.
