Subsided Dance and PIMD Introductory CPD day for dance artists

With Wanna Dance? pioneering lead artists Ruth Spencer and Jane McLean

8th March, 10am-5pm, Ellesmere Port

By artists for artists, this day will bring together dance artists to share approaches, knowledge and resources to enrich dance experiences with people with PIMD.

ABOUT THE DAY:

People with PIMD are non-verbal, sensory specialists with idiosyncratic communication styles.  As dance artists and creatives we have much to learn from them on sensory being, intention and communication. Over the last 3 years Dance Artists Ruth Spencer and Jane McLean have been creating one to one dancing experiences with people with PIMD through the Wanna Dance? Dance Artist in Residency Programmes in Cheshire West.

In this one day professional development workshop they will share some of their emerging learning and approaches to dancing one to one with people with PIMD. They will introduce the Wanna Dance? programme, share some of the underpinning research and processes and explore practical ways into one to one dancing with people with PIMD.

By artists for artists, this day aims to bring together dance artists working with or, with an interest in working with, people with PIMD to share approaches, knowledge and resources to enrich dance experiences with people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. Together we will explore, question, develop and inspire our practice – and each other – to ensure all people with PMLD can have opportunities to experience dance.

ABOUT WANNA DANCE?:

Wanna Dance? is about creating dancing opportunities with people with Profound Intellectual & Multiple Disabilities (PIMD). Led by dance artists, Ruth Spencer and Jane McLean (Cheshire Dance) the project asks IF participants would like to dance and if so, how that dance might be? Practice in this field opens a myriad of questions, many ethically charged concerning inclusion, access, consent and ownership in relation to methods, policy and practice.

Through 1:1 co-created movement sessions, this project is founded upon a commitment to involve people with PIMD in decisions about their engagement in dance, providing opportunities for their preferences to impact upon their experience.

Wanna Dance? seeks to create care environments that are sensitive to lived body experience. For more information on Wanna Dance? and the Dance and PMLD Practice Sharing Network please see www.pmld-dance.org.
