The Dancing Games

The Dancing Games is a daytime, hour-long, outdoor performance for family audiences. A highly interactive dance performance based on the science fiction adventure film series and novels The Hunger Games.

The story takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future, where tributes must take part in the Dancing Games.  Like the original story the Tributes realise that rather than fight they must use their senses to connect to each other and navigate their environment in order to survive.

This performance is unrelenting in its raw energy and shares the story through the dancer’s physical relationship to site and each other in this sensory journey through the environment.

Happy Dancing Games! And may the odds be ever in your favour!

Participate in The Dancing Games

Train

OK, back to the start! The Tributes (that's you!) must develop their senses to survive in the environment for The Dancing Games under the guidance of the Trainers (that's us!). Trainers take Tributes on a journey through the District of Sense, awakening their sensory skills, developing their special powers of awareness and training them how to collect currency.

Discover

In the Arena of Discovery they encounter movement experiences that test their sensory skills as they discover and explore.

Gathering golden cones from the cheeky sprites along the way, Tributes grow their sense strings.

Celebrate

The professional dancers, who've been rehearsing with a local youth group begin the Dance Capitol Ceremony.

And out of nowhere the Master of Sensemonies appears inspiring Tributes to join the conclusion to the ceremony.

Cheshire Dance
Cheshire Dance has a strong history of site-based performance work & intergenerational dance training and facilitation, led by Artistic Director Jacqueline McCormick.

Throughout our work we are curious about adapting to the unique qualities of site, where professional dancers are collaborating and performing with local participants, with the body and senses as a further source for creating and performing.  Additionally we open up a choice for audiences in how they relate to The Dancing Games, with opportunities to participate, watch and perform, some of whom will experience all 3.  We offer a unique experience for our audiences, our participants and our partners.
