Solo forms and Contact Improvisation

This session will be based in Contact Improvisation. Somatic images and solo patterns will underpin the warm-up. Investigating and challenging your solo dancing will be your preparation for meeting others in Contact dances. Connecting deeply with others will lead you back to self awareness. Technical challenges and conceptual strategies will be offered to support you in learning something new. 

Rick danced throughout the 90's in many contexts including theatre, dance theatre, digital media, television, site specific, opera and pure dance. In 2001 he became a member of staff at London Contemporary Dance School where he continues to teach Composition and Improvisation. Rick has become an internationally renowned Contact Improvisation teacher and has been invited to lead workshops in 12 different countries and more than 40 cities. He has been a guest teacher in many institutions and festivals such as CNDC Anger (France), National Taiwan University of Arts, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Freiburg Festival and The Royal Ballet School. He has taught company class for many companies including Punchdrunk, Rambert Dance Company and DV8.
His recent Choreographic work has included a solo which reached the  Place Prize finals in 2013 and a dance installation in the Barbican Centres Curve Gallery in 2014.  He is currently an artist in residence at TripSpace in Haggerston, London, He is creating an interactive show for adults and kids with his partner and daughter to be premiered at The Place in October 2015 and he will be choreographing for Houston Grand Opera in December 2015.
Rick maintains an improvisational performance practice and has collaborated with many dancers, actors, musicians and designers to create Improvised performance.
