‘Attention to Sensation: performing and documenting presence’

In this practical session we will inquire together into notions of performance presence through attuning our attention to sensation and exploring focus, energy and intention.
We will experiment with ‘capturing’ presence for self and others and how our use of language and image might enable that presence to be shared with and (re)accessed by others.
We will have time to play, share and witness our discoveries together as a group.

Jane’s inquiries into performance presence and the roles that ‘attention to sensation’ and the use of energy and focus play in this, support and underpin all of her work. She continues to question how she can work in performance and facilitation to enable audiences and participants to develop their own kinaesthetic awareness and attention to sensation. She is currently studying for a BTEC Level 5 in Sports and Remedial Massage which she hopes will deepen and enrich her work and interest in awareness, touch based practices and experiential anatomy.
Jane is capoeira addict! She teaches dance and capoeira workshops at international capoeira festivals in the UK and Paris. She enjoys physically inquiring into inversions, energy, weight, momentum and improvisation -particularly with collectives of like-minded artists. She creates and performs with ‘Fluxus Collective’, most recently sharing ‘Can we Play?’ at ‘Urban Moves’ and is currently developing ‘Tales of the Tides’ with Ori Dance – a Grants for the Arts funded performance project inspired by the art and culture of Brazil which will tour locally in October 2015.
As Cheshire Dance's 'Dance Development Artist' for Cheshire West and Chester, Jane’s role involves developing dance across the borough, from relationship development, project conception and management to teaching, facilitating and performing – Jane works with diverse groups from professional artists to community groups and schools. She is also a Visiting Lecturer in Dance at the University of Chester and Co-Director of Rastros no Ar Capoeira and Dance CIC.
