Dance:Ground

Performances Saturday 18th July 2015, 11.30, 12.30 and 1.30pm

Dance:Ground is a site based promenade performance piece at The Lion Salt Works in Northwich using the historical qualities of this newly renovated site, bringing it to life through movement and theatre.

The audience will follow the story of what life was like at the Salt Works 200 years ago as they journey through the site. The daily life of the workers will all be revealed.

Cheshire Dance's Youth Performance Group's CDYPG and D.O.P.E teamed up with the Cheshire Young Carers following a Cheshire Community Foundation award to create Dance:ground. The project was led artistically be Grace Goulding with Assistant Artist Jack Robinson.

Background

The group met every sunday throughout June and July where they were given exclusive access to the site and were able to really explore the space and play around with different ideas.

“Young carers might live with a parent or sibling with a disability and/or illness such as mental health, substance misuse or physical illness. This can impact on a carer's development, health and well-being and dance can support them them to be active, creative and improve self-confidence. In this project they'll learn from experienced dance artists and create their own new dance work with our youth dance companies, culminating in a performance at the end of the project in front of family and friends.” Jane McLean, Dance Development Artist for Cheshire West and Chester
