Background to the Project (skip to opportunities)
Cheshire Dance and Walk The Plank are gearing up for a phenomenal performance project, 'The Moment When ...' in 2012 (inspired by London 2012), choreography by Jacqueline McCormick, Cheshire Dance, Vicki Amedume, Upswing and Ruth Spencer, Independent Dance Artist with John Wassell, Creative Producer, Walk The Plank
All performances will be site-based at 3 iconic locations in Chester, Cheshire East and Warrington and will involve a range of specialist collaborators in dance, aerial work, music, light, costume, fire and pyrotechnics. The Chester event for example will form the culmination of the Olympic Torch evening celebration event, so we're talking about events of some scale.
We will be working on unique pieces for each site with professional dancers, a range of specialist collaborators as well as a very diverse range of community groups drawn from across the sub-region. There will be a few hundred performers or more in each piece. There’s likely to be thousands, tens of thousands watching or taking part in other ways. With all the performers and large creative team, we will no doubt be exploding the potential of these sites as media for making art. We will celebrate ‘The Moment When…..’, inspired by the very moment an athlete commits to becoming an Olympian. We will explore the very human feeling of disorientation and we might occasionally leave the ground or start a fire.

Spend the whole weekend being trained by the professional artists who will be working on The Moment When…project and take part in fun outdoor dance activities, experience a range of styles and classes at Howells school in Denbigh, North Wales.

This is the first opportunity for young people to be part of our large-scale 2012 project by joining professional artists at The Moment When… Youth Dance Residential.

A professional company workshop with Random Dance Company based on their Olympic themed project ‘Endeavour’ and pick n’ mix ‘The Moment When…’ CPD.
The Moment When… CPD will look at ways of using the project's creative themes, in the following areas.
6th November
· Inclusive Practice 10am-12.30pm
· Education - All key stages 1.30pm-4pm
7th November
· Different styles 10am-12.30pm
· Choreography 1.30pm-4pm
This is essential training if you wish for your group/class to be involved in The Moment when… 2012 project. A chance for dance artists, teachers and group leaders (dance background not required) to gain some valuable continuing professional development from various professional artists for both education and community based sessions. Be part of our large-scale London 2012 inspired project by applying to become a shadower. If successful you will be shadowing one of our facilitators for the project. This is a great opportunity for you to enhance your skills and gain free training alongside professional artists under Cheshire Dance’s largest project to date.
Shadower’s Role:
- To undertake CPD with Cheshire Dance around The Moment When ... theme.
- Supporting one facilitator and their group during rehearsal periods.
- Option to support the facilitator in the delivery of The Moment When theme to other community and education groups.
- Have full responsibility for supervision, support and leadership during the tech rehearsals and performance.
- Opportunity (if suitable) to perform with the shadowed group at the performance.
